Spray Painting systems require a controlled environment, qualified and experienced applicators and the correct application method for optimum performance. Our high performance Alpha spray booth with mix room, cures items through rapid air drying guaranteeing quality, reliability and fast turnaround.

TUFF Coatings also offer spectrophotometers readings when using our automotive spray painting services.

Our industrial spray painting site complete with application booth and blast chamber is capable of coating equipment or structures up to 17.1m in length, 5.4 in height and 5.2 in width.

Quality control reports detailing the application process and third party inspections are available upon request.

Preparation is key to ensuring correct adhesion, and this includes the manufacturing process. Surface defects, welds, burrs, sharp edges and lamination should be ground and filled before being abrasive blasted.

Abrasive blasting is the preferred method of preparation used at TUFF Coatings. Garnet is forcibly propelled against a surface, leaving the surface smooth, clean and free of contamination and oxidation.

Our Australian Standard AS1627.4 services cover​​:

  • Class 1 – very light over clean with removal of loose surface contaminants.
  • Class 2 – substantial blast clean with wide spread, visible contaminate removal and base metal colour appearing.
  • ­ Class 2.5 – intensive blast clean leaving shading grey metal with only tiny, isolated flecks or strips of visible contaminates.
  • Class 3 – complete blast clean with consistent metal colour all over and no visible contaminates


Primers are applied to encourage better adhesion, corrosion protection or to achieve build.

Application processes are specified on product data sheets and include principal characteristics, colour and gloss levels, basic data, mixing and application recommendations.

TUFF Coatings only use quality trusted brands with excellent protective qualities. Our trained staff can assist in recommending a primer suitable for any project and we work closely with suppliers if technical specification documents are required.

A prime coat:

  • Should have good adhesion to the substrate
  • Should be compatible with chosen intermediate or top coats
  • Be able to provide corrosion resistance or protection for the substrate.

Top Coat

The top protective coat is the final stage of the application process.

Manufactures specify application instructions and methods. Product compatibility between primers, intermediate and the final coat is important to consider and our trained staff can help to assist when selecting an application system to ensure the long jeopardy any structure or piece of equipment. This is important because the coating system must be well-equipped to handle the environmental conditions whether that’s heat, sunlight, contact with chemicals or constant abrasions
